Edwina Phillips Ward Edwina Phillips Ward, age 84, a life-long resident of the Shorterville Community of Henry County passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Henry County Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville under the care of Kindred Hospice. Funeral services for Ms. Ward will be held at 2PM Sunday, October 28, 2018 in the Shorterville Baptist Church with Reverend Ray S. Riley officiating and Reverend Ralph Estes assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Family First Funeral & Cremation Care. Music will be provided by Debbie Weems and Jimmy Hudspeth will serve as soloist. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to service time at the church. Ms. Ward was born April 11, 1934 in Shorterville to the late Robert Edward Phillips Sr. and Turley Ennis Herndon Phillips. She lived all of her life in the Shorterville area and was a homemaker. She attended the Shorterville Baptist Church where she also served as the church organist for many years. Ms. Ward was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Baxley and two sisters, Libby Trammell and Rosanna Hayes. Survivors include a son, Bennie Baxley, Sr. of Carmichael, CA; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Edward Phillips, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Shorterville; a daughter-in-law, Frances Baxley of Shorterville; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) McKnight of Dothan, Tara Jeno of Roseville, CA, Bennie Baxley, II of Carmichael, CA and Lori (Dan) Cooper of Abbeville and eight great-grandchildren also survive, along with several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Bennie Baxley, II, Jamison Wilson, Dan Cooper, Kevin McKinght, Phillip Hayes, Joel Kennedy and Josh Kennedy. Care for the Ward family is being provided by Jason Shepard, Randy Crenshaw and staff of Family First Funeral & Cremation Care.
