Carol Jacob Obituary


Carol Ann Jacob, age 72, passed away May 13 at Wesley Place under the care of Kindred Hospice following an extended illness.  Carol was born July 31, 1948 in Newark, NJ, the first child of Edward and Joan Mathews.  An adventurous spirit with many talents led her through multiple professional and personal experiences.  She earned a captain’s license and operated a charter sailboat in the Keys, visiting many of the ports of the Caribbean islands.  Carol also worked as an executive secretary and event planner for the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada, including receptions for the Bush family and Secret Service.  Returning to the mainland, she began a 25 year career as a real estate agent, first in Fort Lauderdale then Valrico, FL.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents along with two brothers, Edward and Allan Mathews.  She is survived by two sisters, JoAnn Jones of Loganville, GA and MaryEllen Prophet (Chuck) of Dothan.  Aunt Carol also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, including Amanda Culbertson (Barrett), Jessica Jones, William Prophet, Sofia Prophet, Elizabeth Caroline Prophet, Aryn Sherman (Cody), Dorian Mathews, and Megan Jonathans (Paul).  Memorial donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) and Moffitt Cancer Center (www.moffitt.org) to support the courageous afflicted are appreciated. A celebration for family and friends of Carol will be announced at a later time.
