Dr. James Lunsford age 77 of Slocomb passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at UAB following an illness.  Per family wishes, a direct cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, 5 p.m. at the family land at 573 Green Road, Slocomb, AL 36375.  Military honors will be presented. 

James was born February 18, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama to James Norman Lunsford, Jr and Josephine Trotter Lunsford.  He was a Colonel in the United States Army National Guard.  He retired after 28 years of service.  He obtained his undergraduate studies from Auburn University and his PhD from Mississippi State.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, listening to music, cooking and watching Auburn Football.   

He is preceded in death by his parents James Norman Lunsford, Jr and Josephine Trotter Lunsford.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Katherine Inman Lunsford; son James Norman Lunsford IV; Buddy Hagans (Tina); daughter Wendy Skipper (Jimmy); grandchildren James Norman Lunsford V; Heather Skipper (Justin Cantor), Christy Marlin (Scott), Patrick Hagans, Emily Hagans, Jamie Hagans, Joshua Hagans, Sarah Hagans; great grandchildren Jasmine Wambles, Levi Cantor, Olivia Rankin, Dallan Cantor, Declan Cantor.
