Janette Phillips Griggs

Janette Griggs, a lifelong resident of Headland died Wednesday night October 3, 2018 in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville.  She was 95.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Headland Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating and Randy Crenshaw of Family First Funeral Care directing.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Monday in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church of Headland.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice 1512 West Main Street Dothan, Al 36301 or to Headland Methodist Church Cemetery Fund 103 West King Street Headland, Al 36345.

Mrs. Griggs was born in Headland daughter of the late Joseph Barney Phillips and Mary Hardwick Phillips.  Janette was a homemaker and only after her three sons were raised did she work as a teacher’s aide at Headland Elementary School.  She was a member of Headland Baptist Church.  Other than her parents Janette was preceded in death by her husband D. Winston “Wink” Griggs, Sr., two sisters Louise Cain and Dorothy Andrews, two brothers Joe Phillips and John Phillips

She is survived by three sons, D. Winston Griggs, Jr of Headland, Dr. William P. (Phil) Griggs and wife Maureen of Bellingham, WA., and David R. Griggs and wife Dr. Dana M. Griggs of Covington, LA., four grandchildren Patrick Griggs, Ryan Griggs, Ashley Griggs and Mason Griggs.
