Lewis Herman Moffitt began his mortal journey on December 5, 1938 to his parents James Shelton Moffitt, Sr. and Arnetta Mariah Barber in Houston County, Alabama. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at 9 years old. He returned to heaven on November 5, 2023 surrounded by his family as he transitioned. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023, 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Webb, Alabama with Pastor Alfonzo Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
He received his education in the Houston County School System in Dothan, Alabama where he became a musician and learned the trade of dry cleaning. He later became a skillful guitarist / musician and traveled the country entertaining the masses through out his musical career. His employment included 25 years as a City of Dothan employee where he retired in 1998.
Lewis was devoted to his family and leaves to cherish his lovely wife of 52 years, Nancy Moffitt; daughters Juanita (Danny), Sheila (Michael) and son Kenneth; brother-in-law Minister Chad (Alicia) Cooper; sister-in-law Ida Thompson.
He was the doting grandfather of 3 grandchildren, Dwight (Amanda) Moffitt of Norfolk, VA, Erika (Macajar) Pugh of Dothan, Alabama, Terrill Potter of Dothan, Alabama.
He was also the proud great grandfather of Amaya & Avianna Moffitt of Norfolk, VA, Kajun Morgan and Kajuan Stewart both of Dothan, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Special friends Lester Jackson, Francina Morales and Charles Hatten.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother James Moffitt, Jr; two sisters Ella Mae McCloud, Ida Boyd.
