Mrs. Mary Lou Gatlin

Mrs. Mary Lou Gatlin, age 70 of Newton (Wicksburg Community) passed away Wednesday morning, February 19, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family and under the care of DaySprings Hospice.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the sanctuary at Bethlehem Baptist Church (N. Brannon Stand Rd.) with Pastor Paul Edenfield officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will begin at 6pm Friday evening at the church.  

Mrs. Gatlin was born March 9, 1949 in Hacoda to the late Ralph and Nell Ivey Sullivan. She had lived in the Dothan area for the past 38 years. A long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Mrs. Mary was the Founder and served as Director of the Bethlehem Child Development Center from 1999 until 2007. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years as well. Mrs. Mary was a devoted, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. In her position with the Child Development Center, she touched countless lives and established many life-long friendships. Truly a woman of honor, Mrs. Mary will be missed by not only her family, but also her church family and all that knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Gatlin of Wicksburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jennifer Gatlin of Skipperville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Brent Stephens of Wicksburg. Two grandchildren, LeighElla Stephens and LeighAnna Stephens as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
