Michael Wayne Tew, affectionately known as “Mickey”, passed into heaven at the age of 66, on October 2, 2023. He is remembered fondly by all who knew him as a kind, patient man. Funeral Services for Mickey will be Friday, October 6, 2023 11 a.m. at Ewell Bible Baptist Church with Reverend David Lewis and Pastor Dale Goodwin officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born in Morocco on September 5, 1957, into a family that continued traveling until his dad retired from the Air Force in 1971. They settled in Ozark because southeast Alabama was their home. Mickey graduated from Carroil hi8gh School and worked as a fuel truck driver for the helicopter training at Ft. Rucker. Two weeks after his 21st birthday he suffered a swimming accident and became a quadriplegic. He was well cared for by his parents and siblings for 45 years.
After Mickey became a Christian, he was baptized and became a member of the Ewell Bible Baptist Church where he participated in the military outreach program and the Christian School sports program. He was a witness to others by his gentle spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Wayne Tew and Leila Myrtis Tew. He is survived by his siblings, Donna (Chuck) Barnard, Susan (Ron) Beauchamp, Judith (Mike) Lewis, and Richard (Aquila) Tew, niece Jennifer (Kevin) Behymer, nephews Jason (Holly) Barnard, and Benjamin Lewis, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to thank the many family members, friends and caregivers who meant so much to Mickey. There are too many to mention. You know who you are – angels on earth who contributed so much to his life. Mickey is now walking, running and dancing on the streets of heaven with others who have gone on before. As a good friend said on the day of his death, “He’s now stubbing his toe on the gold in heaven!”
