Thomas Gurthie

Thomas Gurthie, age 78 of Headland died Saturday morning, July 13, 2019 at his residence under the care of Covenant Hospice, surrounded by his family.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 11AM Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in the Midland City Cemetery with Pastor Dave Lewis officiating.

Thomas was born in Henry County on September 23, 1940 to the late Floyd and Thelma Peterson Gurthie. After graduation, he joined and honorably served our country in the United States Navy. After living in the Blakely/Cedar Springs, Georgia area for many years, Thomas returned to Henry County 22 years ago where he lived for the rest of his life. For many years until his retirement Thomas was a sewing machine mechanic and most recently worked with Southern Apparel. He also played in several area bands doing Country cover songs, mostly in area VFW clubs. He was of the Baptist faith.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Julia Gurthie of Headland; four daughters, Debra (Mark) Mitchell of Phenix City, Tammy (Jerome) Cannon of Montgomery, Shirley Dawn (Jesse) Noblit of Mentor, Ohio and Samantha (Cayson) Bulloch of Columbus, GA; a sister, Betty Bridges of Blakely, GA; a step-daughter, Angie Klink of Dothan; two step-sons, Scott (Regina) Bowman of Dothan and Michael Bowman, Atlanta, GA . In addition, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
